Shoe hurled at Ruling Benches in Punjab Assembly
Punjab Assembly proceedings touched a new low when a member threw a shoe at the ruling combine on Wednesday.
The Congress has been demanding that the house take up a no confidence motion against the Akali-BJP government and had even stayed in the assembly for two consecutive nights. The speaker had earlier rejected the motion by voice vote.
On Wednesday, Congress members trooped into the well demanding that the speaker resolve the issue. This led to two adjournments.
When the house assembled again, the speaker proceeded to take up few bills to get them passed. Strongly objecting to this Congress members hurled papers and books at the chair. Amid the din, a shoe was hurled at the ruling benches. The shew fell just short of where Minister Bikram Singh Majithia was sitting.
