Rs 20 Lakh Old Notes Seized From Milk Van

Hyderabad: Police have seized demonetised banknotes worth Rs 20 lakh from a vehicle at Yacharam here on Saturday.

Initially, the van driver said the notes were meant to be taken to a dairy unit office as part of payments. However, it was found that on all previous occasions the payment was usually made through online transactions, the officer said, adding they have seized the cash

During vehicle checking police found old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations kept in a carton in cabin of a milk van, said Yacharam police station inspector J Madan Mohan Reddy.

Initially, the van driver said the notes were meant to be taken to a dairy unit office as part of payments. However, it was found that on all previous occasions the payment was usually made through online transactions, the officer said, adding they have seized the cash.

Police has handed over the matter to IT department, which has been informed about the seizure.
