Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) continues to be in spot of disruption as Joint Action Committee for Social Justice (JAC) said that deceased research scholar Rohith Vemula’s statue has been vandalised.

The JAC members allege that vandalisation took place in the wee hours of Saturday and the statue has been damaged around nose and chin. The students fear that administration is holding grudge against them hence are using these tactics to undermine them.

First they removed the tents, then the Ambedkar statue was stolen and now the bust of Vemula has been vandalised. Vice chancellor Appa Rao Podile continues his atrocities on the students

They also rue that ‘Velivada’ is also under threat and might remove it too where Rohith spent his last days before committing suicide on January 17. Rohith’s memorial ‘Rohith Smaraka’ might face similar consequence, they fear.

The incident comes in light after B R Ambedkar’s statue was removed from the shopping complex area in the university at the behest of Vice-Chancellor Appa Rao Podile, a claim denied by the administration.

“First they removed the tents, then the Ambedkar statue was stolen and now the bust of Vemula has been vandalised. Vice chancellor Appa Rao Podile continues his atrocities on the students,” said a JAC member
