Reinstallation of statues on Tank Bund begins
The State Government has begun the damage control exercise. The Culture wing of the Government today took up the exercise of reinstallation of some statues on the Tank Bund in Hyderabad damaged during the 2010 million march.
The statues of Komaram Bhim, Veeresalinga, Gurajada Appa Rao and Annamayya are being installed at their former places while the other damaged statues would be replaced very soon, probably in another 10 days, officials of the Department of Culture said.
Some statues on the picturesque Tank Bund in Hyderabad were damaged by some protestors during the million march in 2010. The exercise to reinstall them was taken up by the Culture department. The official function to unveil them will be organized only after all the damaged statues are reinstalled, the officials added.
Meanwhile, activists of the Telangan Jagruthi, led by its president K Kavitha, staged a dharna on the Tank Bund demanding that statues of only those luminaries from Telangana be installed.
