D Rama Naidu: From Farm Land to Film Land
Veteran producer Daggubati Rama Naidu died after prolonged illness at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Wednesday. He was 79.
He is survived by wife Daggubati Rajeshwari, two sons - Venkatesh and Suresh and a daughter - Lakshmi, who happens to be the first wife of actor Nagarjuna.
Born on June 6, 1936 in Prakasam district's Karamchedu, Rama Naidu was the founder of Suresh Productions and holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the most films produced by an individual, having produced more than 155 films in 13 Indian languages.
Starting with Ramudu Bheemudu, an NTR-starrer, he produced several all-time hits like Prem Nagar, Sipai Chinnaiah. His latest film is Gopala Gopala.
He has been conferred Padma Bhushan in 2005 and Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2009 for his contribution to the film world. His son Venkatesh is one of the most popular heroes of Telugu film industry. His other son Suresh is a well-known producer.
He has also served as a member of parliament for the Bapatla constituency of Guntur District in the 13th Lok Sabha from 1999–2004. He had won from TDP, but resigned after the party lost power in 2004.
