Overnight Rains Lash Twin Cities; Bastis, Colonies Inundated
Hyderabad: Heavy rains that began at midnight continued to lash Hyderabad and Secunderabad on Thursday causing disruption to traffic movement at several places.
An overnight rainfall of 9cm in Secunderabad and 6-7cm in several areas of Hyderabad was recorded.
Low lying areas and colonies alike have been affected with the rain water filling the dwelling places. From LB Nagar, Chaitanyapuri, Dilsukhnagar to Kukatpally, Miyapur, Chandanagar, Rajendranagar, Secunderabad, Nacharam, Maulali and Uppal, rain water gushed into houses and apartments. People are using motor pumps to clear the rain water from the cellars at several apartments.
The Malkajgiri Banda Cheruvu was overflowing on to the road and vehicular movement was stopped. Water-logged roads at Bharathnagar bridge near Erragadda, Kukatpally, Attapur, LB Nagar and several other places are causing disruption to traffic movement.
GHMC officials along with Firemen are reviewing the situation and clearing water from roads and apartment cellars. Excise Minister T. Padma Rao visited the affected areas in Secuderabad and arranged shelters to people affected by the rain waters.
