Police High Handedness On YSRCP Cadre During Peaceful Protest In Vijayawada
Vijayawada: The city police on Monday unleashed terror on a peaceful protest by YSRCP activists and also dragged them away to waiting police vans.
The YSRCP cadre were conducting a 'chalo Assembly' programme to demand special status for Andhra Pradesh. Similar arrests were made in Nandigama, Jaggaiahpeta, Nuzvid and Gudivada. The police contended that permission for protests was allowed only at the designated Dharna Chowk. They also conducted frisking operation and checked every vehicle heading towards the state Assembly. Several leaders of YSRCP and other opposition parties were placed under house arrest on Monday.
Tension prevailed at Alankar Center in the city when police dragged the cadre of YSRCP and other NGOs to waiting police vans in order to disrupt the protests. The protesters said that the police are resorting to undemocratic ways to thwart a peaceful rally. Among those arrested included YSRCP leaders Parthasarathi, Udaya Bhanu, Jogi Ramesh, Malladi Vishnu and Vellampalli Srinivas besides cadre from the Left parties. They were shifted to Machavaram police station.
