Hyderabad: More than Rs15 lakh has been lost due to vishing calls - fraudulent calls - under its circle, reveal Rachakonda police. The officials added that so far they were able to retrieve 97 percent of the cash lost to cyber fraudsters.

The official said that so far 24 people have fallen prey to vishing calls and on average each customer lost Rs 60,000 from their bank accounts

Cybercrime inspector Md Riyazuddin said that they could track the culprits if the victims approach the police at the earliest. “Initially, we freeze the scamsters accounts and get it reverted. This will be a great relief to the victim. Tracing the suspect is also an important job for us so that he will not trap others in the same way," he added.

The official said that so far 24 people have fallen prey to vishing calls and on average each customer lost Rs 60,000 from their bank accounts. It may be recalled that of late a farmer hailing from Bhongir lost Rs 2.10 lakh and a housewife from Ghatkesar lost Rs 2.68 lakh by the purported calls.

Riyazuddin advised people to be cautious of such phone calls and not to give their personal financial details.
