Officials seize 530 kg ganja in AP; 3 arrested

Excise officials seized 530 kg of ganja from a van in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh and arrested three persons in this connection.

According to Excise and Prohibition Assistant Commissioner K B A Sastry, the sleuths impounded the ganja (cannabis) packed in 22 bags from a van last night at Ramavaram Highway in Jaggempta mandal of the district and arrested three persons in this connection. He said the market value of the seized ganja is around Rs 10 lakh and it was being illegally transported to Nagapatnam in Tamil Nadu from the agency area of Darakonda in Visakhapatnam via Rajahmundry.
 The three arrested persons are P Vijayakumar of Vizinagaram, Ch Ram of Mahabubabad,A Lova Raju of Visakhapatnam, the official said. The raids were conducted in the district as part of the election code, to curtail illegal transport of money, gold, silver and other materials, he added.
