Telangana Minister Bats for Special Category Status to Andhra

 - Sakshi Post

New Delhi: Telangana’s Roads and Buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has backed the Special Category Status (SCS) to neighbouring Telugu state Andhra Pradesh.

He made these remarks after meeting the representatives of the Andhra Pradesh Special Category Status Porata Samithi in the national capital on Tuesday. Speaking to reporters, the Congress minister said he will try his best to prevail upon the Centre to grant Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.

Komatireddy recalled that the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had promised to accord the Special Category Status to the Telugu state. The former prime minister even said that he expected his successor and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfill his UPA government’s commitment to Andhra Pradesh. The Telangana minister further said it’s unfortunate that the Centre has not kept it’s word. It is the responsibility of the Modi government to fulfill the commitment, he added.

The Andhra Pradesh government has been pushing for the Special Category Status as the state lost a significant amount of revenue after Hyderabad (the capital of undivided Andhra Pradesh) was given to Telangana after the bifurcation of state on June 2, 2014.
