Telangana Congress Leaders Put Under House Arrest To Prevent Jala Deeksha
HYDERABAD: On the Telangana state formation day, several Congress leaders, including MLAs and MPs, have been put under house arrests in order to prevent the protest (Jala Deeksha) planned by the party on the various irrigation projects over the Krishna river.
The protest, Jala Deeksha was planned by the Congress party to highlight their allegation that the present TRS government led by K Chandrasekhar Rao did not take up various irrigation projects that were sanctioned during the Congress rule.
The Congress leaders were put under house arrest by the police included TPCC President and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy in Hyderabad, Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy in Kodangal, Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and former minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah in Hyderabad.
Uttam Kumar Reddy argued with the police that he cannot be put under house arrest like this and that he will complain about it to the judiciary. He was allowed to move out of his house and then, he went to Gandhi Bhavan where he unfurled the national flag, and later, he left for Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project.
He condemned the arrests of the Congress leaders across the state and criticized the government.
He also demanded the withdrawal of the police force from the leaders’ houses and that they should be allowed to carry out peaceful protests.
"This is not the state for which so many people have sacrificed their lives. The state is now being ruled by a dictator,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy argued with the police deployed in his house. He convinced that that the will not carry out any protest but will just visit the SLBC. Then, he was allowed to move along with former Minister and Senior Congress Leader K Janareddy and they moved towards SLBC.
Other leaders including CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka, Mulugu MLA Seethakka and Bhadrachalam MLA Podem Veeraiah who had planned to carry
Deeksha at Paderu reservoir, Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy and former MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy who had planned for Deeksha at the Laxmidevipally Pump House, former minister Nagam Janardhan Reddy who had planned for Deeksha at the Ellur reservoir and Vamshi Chand Reddy who had planned for Deeksha at Kalwakurthy.
