High-Profile Drugs Case: What’s Delaying the Probe?
Hyderabad: The investigation in the drugs case at a city hotel involving the arrest of BJP leader Gajjala Yoganand’s son, Gajjala Vivekanand, and nine others does not seem to be heading in the right direction.
It may be recalled here that the police had raided a city hotel after receiving credible information that attendees were consuming drugs at the party during the intervening night of February 25 and 26. The police have also booked a case against the hotel under Section 25 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Tollywood director Krish Jagarlamudi, who was also present at the party, took the drug test but he tested negative. According to the police the drug test will not yield positive results if the test is done after a considerable gap after consuming the drugs. They said that many attendees fled the spot before the raid and went into hiding for a few days. They were later made to undergo the 12-panel drug test which is not efficient if done 4 days after consuming the drugs.
The police officials also said the current drug testing laboratories lack advanced equipment to detect traces of drugs in a sample of hair and bone testing for drug abuse. The police have launched a search operation for several other persons who had reportedly consumed drugs at the party arranged by one Syed Abbas Ali Jeffery at the behest of Gajjala Vivekanand. Earlier, Vivekanand, Kedhar and Nirbhay were tested positive for drugs.
