12-yr-old Telangana Girl Sets Up Libraries, PM Modi Lauds Her!
During a recent visit to Telangana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Akarshana Satish, a seventh-grade student from Hyderabad, who has been actively promoting a reading culture among children. The youngster has set up nine libraries across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. The Prime Minister praised her efforts and the impact she has made in fostering literacy among young minds.
Akarshana's libraries, which now house a total of 6,000 books, have been made possible through generous donations from her friends, neighbors, and relatives. Her dedication has not gone unnoticed. She was previously recognized by the Prime Minister on his monthly radio program 'Mann ki Baat.' In a heartwarming gesture, Prime Minister Modi pledged to attend the inauguration of her 25th library personally.
Akarshana's journey began at the MNJ Cancer Hospital, where she established her first library stocked with 2,036 books. Encouraged by the positive response, she went on to set up her second library at the Sanathnagar Police Station with 800 books. She also established a third library at the Juvenile & Observation Home for Girls in Hyderabad, providing access to 600 books for young readers.
Further expanding her reach, Akarshana donated 200 books each to the Gayathri Nagar Association in Borabanda and the Coimbatore City Police Street libraries. Additionally, she contributed 1,200 books to the Chennai Boys Club located at the Nolambur Police Station. Her most recent project was to establish a library at the Government High School in Sanathnagar, which now houses over 600 books. She aims to establish three more libraries by the end of 2024.
