NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi On Friday urged the citizens to save the mother earth and take a pledge to preserve our planet’s rich biodiversity. Modi took to his Twitter and tweeted as,"On World Environment Day, we reiterate our pledge to preserve our planet’s rich biodiversity. Let us collectively do whatever possible to ensure the flora and fauna with whom we share the Earth thrive. May we leave an even better planet for the coming generations."

Every year, the theme for World Enviroment Day is different and these themes are adopted by organisations. The theme for this year is 'Celebrate Biodiversity'. Here is the tweet from Modi.

Modi shared a clip from his last ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme. In the video, he said that, the entire world is celebrating World Environment Day (WED) on the 5th of June annually.

Prime Minister Modi said that "During the lockdown in the last weeks the pace of life may have slowed down but it has also given us an opportunity to introspect upon the rich diversity of nature or biodiversity around us."

He stressed on the point to save rainwater and urged everyone to follow traditional conservation methods. Modi added that much of the avian fauna had sort of disappeared due to sound and air pollution.

Modi asserted that many are speaking about the news of animals walking freely on social media and many are writing and sharing such type of news. Many would have also inspired people to do something for nature.

He asked the people to draw inspiration to live with nature by creating a balance. He quoted that water is life, water will decide the future of the next generations and it is the responsibility of the people to save each and every drop of rainwater.
