Rains: December 28 - Delhi Sees Heaviest Rains After 100 Years
Delhi has made headlines by setting a new record for rainfall in December, marking the highest amount recorded in 24 hours in over a century. As of 8:30 AM on Saturday, December 28, the capital received 41.2 millimeters of rainfall, the heaviest in the month of December since 1923.
On December 3, 1923, Delhi recorded 75.7 millimeters of rain, a benchmark that stood for 101 years. This marks the first time in a century that Delhi has experienced such heavy rainfall in December on a Saturday. In response to the ongoing downpour, the Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for the city.
The persistent rain has led to a noticeable drop in temperatures, with the mercury plummeting to 13°C. Additionally, the rain has caused waterlogging in various parts of the city, resulting in traffic disruptions across multiple areas. However, one positive outcome of the rain has been the improvement in air quality, which had deteriorated in recent days but has now shown significant signs of recovery.
