World Environment Day 2020: Celebs Share Message About Protecting Mother Nature

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on the 5th of June, every year. It was founded by the United Nations to raise awareness about the emerging environmental issues and sketch out strategies to protect our environment. Over 142 countries participate in World Environment Day each year.

The theme for World Environment Day 2020 is “Celebrate Biodiversity”. On the occasion of WED, India has launched 'NagarVan' scheme to create an urban forest in 200 corporation cities.

In a virtual meeting, Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate change, Prakash Javadekar said that, "Let us map forest lands and degraded land in cities. If that is reserved for creating these urban forests and these will work as lungs of cities."

On this World Environment Day, many celebs took to their micro-blogging site and stressed the point to save the planet Earth. Here are the tweets.

Bollywood hero Siddharth Malhotra shared a throwback video in which he can be seen cycling. He captioned the video as, "It is our collective & individual responsibility to preserve and tend to the world in which we all live“- Dalai Lama. Love & Respect!"

Anupam Kher wrote on his micro-blogging site as, "One of the most important lessons this pandemic and the subsequent lockdown should teach us is to respect our environment. Human beings are temporary. Environment is permanent."

Ajinkya Rahane tweeted as, "Our little time for them now can add years to our planet in future."

Rohit Sharma shared a video in which one could see different visuals. He captioned the video as, "This World Environment Day embrace the outdoors from within. Join me in celebrating biodiversity, clear blue skies. birds in balconies and wildlife roaming our streets."

Singer Yo Yo Honey Singh wrote as, "Let’s pledge to preserve the rich biodiversity of our Mother Earth. Let’s pledge to preserve the natural resources and our environment for future generations!"

Sudarshan Patnaik posted a video of his Sand art at Puri Beach in Odisha.

Shikhar Dhawan wrote as, "We are all connected to nature in many ways, hence it's our duty to preserve and take care of it. This #WorldEnvironmentDay, let us all take the pledge to keep our beautiful nature clean and protect it"
