November 19: Holiday for schools in Tamil Nadu due to rain
An alert has been raised by the Regional Meteorological Centre that it is likely to witness heavy rain isolated in the delta districts of Tamil Nadu, on 19th November 2024 Tuesday. In advance of heavy rainfall, the authorities have declared holidays to schools in Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, and Thoothukudi districts.
District Collectors B. Priyanka Pankajam (Thanjavur) and P. Akash (Nagapattinam) ordered the closure of schools as heavy rain is likely to lash the district. In another instance, Thoothukudi Collector K. Elambahavath announced school holidays while colleges would remain open.
Meteorological Centre had forecasted heavy rain in Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, and Karaikal on Tuesday. It has been after a heavy spell of rain in the delta districts that the authorities have taken precautionary measures.
Parents and students are advised to contact the school for further clarification on the holiday. The district administrations are monitoring the weather situation closely and will be prepared for precautions necessary given public safety.
