Chennai Rains: Holidays on November 14,15 Likely
Today, The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy rains across several parts of Tamil Nadu till Friday, November 15. Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) has issued warnings for 11 districts in the state which include Chennai. Heavy rains are expected to hit Tamil Nadu during low-pressure depressions in the Bay of Bengal.
Last month faced heavy rains and floods that swallowed normal life in Tamil Nadu. The isolated heavy showers have been forecasted by IMD across several districts Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Villuppuram, besides Puducherry and Karaikal districts of Tamil Nadu.
Heavy rainstorms caused district collectors to declare a school holiday on November 13, 2024, in a number of affected regions. Reports said schools in districts like Cuddalore, Karaikal, Mayiladuthurai, Ariyalur and Perambalur would be closed today and early November 13 as continuous downpours continue to occur in the respective districts.
Now, the IMD has predicted heavy rains on Thursday and Friday. If the situation persists or deteriorates, school holidays and college holidays will be declared by respective district collectors for November 14 and 15. It is also known that tomorrow, November 14, is Children's Day and most of the schools have half-day schooling after the events.
The residents are requested to stay indoors and hit the roads only when absolutely essential as heavy rain is expected to cause water logging, snarls in traffic, and even a possible power failure. There is also a possibility of flash floods in some places.
