New Delhi, June 26 (IANS) Two days after a 20-year-old man was stabbed in north-east Delhi’s Brijpuri area, the accused was apprehended by the Delhi Police from Uttarakhand’s Dehradun on Sunday.

"Accused Mohammad Zaid was hiding in Dehradun. He had absconded after attacking two persons with a knife in Brijpuri area on June 23 at 10 p.m.," the police said.

According to police, the incident happened when Rahul (20) and his cousin Sonu (19) went to have ice cream after dinner in the street nearby, where Zaid was also present.

An argument ensued between Zaid and Rahul over a trivial issue, and Zaid stabbed Rahul in the lower abdomen. Sonu tried to intervene and sustained injuries on his arms.

The police subsequently registered a case under sections 307 and 324 of the IPC at Dayalpur police station. "Zaid had absconded after committing the crime and was apprehended after a long chase. Rahul is recovering in GTB Hospital after surgery, and his condition is stable, while Sonu was discharged after treatment," said an official.

Paramilitary forces were deployed in the area soon after the incident to prevent any untoward incidents.
