Major Blow to Jana Sena Party in AP High Court
Vijayawada: The Janasena party suffered a setback in the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday regarding the use of the Glass Tumbler as a poll symbol. Janasena had petitioned the court challenging the Election Commission's decision to include the Glass Tumbler as a free symbol for independent candidates in constituencies where Janasena has not fielded any candidates for the May 13 polls in the state.
Janasena's counsel YV Ravi Prasad argued that allowing the Glass Tumbler symbol for independents in those areas could confuse voters. During the hearing on this petition, the High Court upheld the allotment of the Glass Tumbler symbol to independent candidates in constituencies where Janasena is not contesting. The court ruled in favour of the Election Commission's decision on this matter.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission stated it will review the High Court's guidelines and determine further steps accordingly. It's worth noting that Janasena is contesting in 21 assembly and two Lok Sabha constituencies in the upcoming elections.
