AP Govt Reviews Cyclone Gulab Impact, Announces Rs 5 Lakh Ex gratia to Victims - Sakshi Post

 Cyclone Gulab: AP GovtAnnounces Rs 5 Lakh Ex gratia to Victims: AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday, reviewed the impact of Cyclone Gulab via video conference with District Collectors and officials of the cyclone-affected areas. Collectors and officials of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari, Krishna, and Guntur districts participated in the review meeting. Chief Secretary Aditya Nath Das briefed the Chief Minister about the damages and the measures taken to curb the impact of the cyclone.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister announced Rs 5 lakh ex gratia to be given to the kin of the victims who died in the cyclone. He also issued several suggestions and directions to officials as part of the review meeting.

The Chief Minister directed officials to restore electricity on a war footing once the cyclone subsides and the electricity situation was to be monitored every half an hour. He directed the Chief Secretary to remain in the district and continue to monitor the relief efforts. Authorities were advised to act with a humanitarian perspective in the affected areas. The CM directed the officers to open relief camps wherever necessary and provide good food medical care and safe drinking water in these camps.

YS Jagan directed officials to pump out rainwater in the flood-prone areas of Visakhapatnam city. Officials were directed to help families whose houses were flooded. The Chief Minister also ordered officials to provide financial assistance of Rs.1000 / - per family at the time of leaving the relief camps.

YS Jagan also instructed officials to provide safe drinking water through water‌ tankers as there was a risk of contamination due to rainwater seepage. He also suggested that the water schemes should be run with the help of generators. He directed officials to enumerate crops destroyed in the flooded areas on a war footing and prepare the estimates immediately.  It is suggested to deal with the farmers with a humanitarian perspective while doing the enumeration and help them at the earliest‌.

Authorities were ordered to alert people living near the  Vamsadhara and Nagavali rivers areas. He directed officials to move them to relief camps wherever necessary and monitor the water levels in the reservoirs from time to time.

Minister Botsa Satyanarayana from Vizianagaram, Minister Avanti Srinivas from Visakhapatnam, State Disaster Management Commissioner MT Kannababu, Deputy Chief Minister M Dharmana Krishnadas, and Chief Secretary  Aditya Nath Das from Srikakulam participated in the review meeting.
