New railway zone in Visakhapatnam?

It is appearing that a new railway zone may be formed with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters.

Several leaders are reportedly pressurizing the union government for the same as the state was divided.

Earlier, there was a demand to form the zone between Guntur and Vijayawada.

But, the BJP leaders in the state are infavour of Visakhapatnam as the new zone headquarters. As per the reports, the ruling TDP is also infavour of port city only for the same.

As the capital may be formed between Guntur and Vijayawada, the new zone may be formed with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters as part of decentralization process.

A high level meeting took place in Hyderabad on Saturday. In the meeting, Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu, General Manager of South Central Railway Srivastava, some state ministers and senior officials participated. The issue of new railway zone also came up for discussion in the meeting.

As per the sources, Chandrababu may submit a detailed report to the union government on the railway needs of Andhra Pradesh in his Delhi visit on June 25.
