Usage of Public Transport By People Will Solve the Traffic Problems: KTR

Hyderabad: Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said that irrespective of flyovers and underpasses that were being constructed in the city, the traffic scenario would not improve unless people preferred public transportation facilities. The city got a population of one crore and there were nearly 50 lakh vehicles. Only 33 per cent people in Hyderabad use public transport, while the others prefer private modes of transport, he observed.

Speaking to media here on Friday after inaugurating Kamineni flyover, KTR said that this was the first flyover and the fourth structure to be finished under the Strategic Road Development Program (SRDP). Parallel to this flyover at Kamineni intersection, another 940-m-long structure would come up in a half year, he said. The Kamineni flyover was constructed at a cost of Rs 49 crore.

KTR said that global companies were recognising Hyderabad as one among the powerful urban cities in the world, the city would be developed into a super city by 2030. Hyderabad was drawing the attention of MNC and specialist organisations. The international organisations felt Hyderabad was witnessing quicker advancement than any other city in the country. Hyderabad was positioned as the 15th greatest city in the country at present, and in the next couple of years, it would be the third greatest, the Minister said.
