Hyderabad Can Be Second Capital, Says Former Maha Gov
HYDERABAD: Former Governor of Maharashtra and Senior BJP leader K Vidyasagar Rao, said there could be a possibility of Hyderabad being made as the second capital of the country. These statements were made during the launch of a poetic compilation titled 'Sridhar Kavitha Prasthanam' by Dr Sridhar Reddy in the city.
This statement has created ripples in the political circles that too by a senior BJP leader fuelling speculations that Hyderabad could become a union territory under the control of the Central government. This rumour was dismissed after several Union Ministers said that the Central Government had no such intention to do so.
But now with a senior BJP leader like Vidyasagar Rao who also served as the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs making such a statement has brought this issue to the fore again.
The BJP leader while speaking during the book launch referred to the pollution levels in Delhi which had reached dangerous levels. He further added that this sudden development in the National Capital will remind people the dream of Dr B R Ambedkar's dream of making Hyderabad as the second capital ,keeping the low level of pollutions in mind, he said.
Babasaheb Ambedkar , had raised the issue of Hyderabad as a second capital in his book titled 'Thoughts of Linguistic States' published in the 50s . Delhi is most inconvenient for people from the south because of distance as well as extreme cold and hot weather. Even for the north Indians, summers are a difficult time in Delhi. But more importantly, Delhi is a vulnerable place, within bombing distance from neighbouring countries."
Ruling out Kolkata because of its proximity with Tibet, Ambedkar also finds Mumbai unsafe due to its coastline. Then Ambedkar zeroes in on Hyderabad. "I find Hyderabad to be a better location for the second capital. Hyderabad-Secunderabad and Bolarum should be constituted into a chief commissioner's province and made the second capital of India," he wrote in the book.
