Former Telugu Starlet  Defeats Shiv Sena To Become Amarvati MP

Maharasthra: Former Telugu Actress Navneet Kaur Rana beat veteran Shiv Sena leader and two-time Member of Parliament (MP) Anandrao Adsul in Amravati constituency at Maharashtra, in the recently held Lok Sabha Elections.

Navneet Kaur as she was known in the Telugu film industry worked predominantly in less- acclaimed Telugu films, a few Punjabi and Kannada films from 2004 to 2010.People recollect her dance number with Jr NTR in Rajamouli’s film ‘Yamadonga’’ in 2007. She quit the industry, married Ravi Rana, an independent MLA from Badnera constituency in Amravati city. They got married in a mass marriage conducted by Ravi himself in 2011. They were one among the 3100 couples who were married in the event , which was attended by Baba Ramdev and the then Chief Minister of Maharasthra Prithviraj Chouhan.

With this win Navneet joins the list of the film stars who have been elected to Parliament. She contested the election as a Yuva Swabhimani Paksha (YSP) candidate, a political outfit formed by her husband.

She first made her political debut in 2014 where she had fought as an NCP candidate but lost by over 1.37 lakh votes. This time, however, she defeated Adsul by 36,951 votes.

“When the entire country was facing a (BJP) tsunami, the people of Amravati chose me over others. There was no strategy at all. Our dedication and hard work reached to the heart of people and they elected me,” she said . Her first priority she said would be to get an airport built in Amaravti and improve the rail connectivity between Amarvati and Pune.
