Rajinikanth, Ajith vote in Chennai

Chennai: Actor-politician Rajinikanth on Thursday exercised his democratic right here at the polling booth in Stella Maris college.

Similarly, actor Ajith cast his vote at a polling booth near his residence in Thiruvanmiyur here. Actor-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan and his daughter Shruti Haasan queued up at a polling booth here and voted in the Lok Sabha polls.

The father and daughter reached the booth around 8 a.m. and joined the queue. In one of the polling booths in that centre, voting started only at about 7.55 a.m. due to technical problems.

105-year-old votes in Maharashtra

Latur (Maharashtra): Heads turned when 105-year-old Kabaibai Ganpati Kamble on Thursday reached a polling station to cast her vote in the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra.

Seated on a wheelchair, Kabaibai was accompanied by her grown up children and other fourth-generation relatives to the polling station in Harangul New Colony in Latur. She was cheered by other voters who clapped for her

Polling officer dies of heart attack in Karnataka

Bengaluru: A 53-year-old polling officer died of heart attack on Thursday in Karnataka's Chamarajanagar reserved (SC) Lok Sabha constituency where polling was underway, an official said.

Shantamurthy, who hailed from Hannur, suffered the heart attack at polling booth number 48 around 10.30 a.m. and died on the way to a hospital, returning officer B.B. Cauvery told IANS on phone from Chamarajanagar, about 140 km from Bengaluru. "He was fine when he reported for duty at 6.30 a.m.," Cauvery said.

Bridegroom votes in Maharashtra

Buldhana (Maharashtra): A bridegroom here on Thursday voted in the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. The man, in Buldhana district, went to the polling station wearing his wedding outfit, headgear and a pearl-studded necklace.

95-year-old dies outside polling booth in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A 95-year-old man died here on Thursday while waiting in a queue to vote in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha.

The man was waiting for his turn at Kansamari booth in the Aska Lok Sabha seat when he suddenly collapsed, officials said.

Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh): A newly-wed bride in Aligarh city in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday voted in the Lok Sabha election before leaving for her husband's house. Anshu Verma, a resident of Mohalla Kanoon Goyan, got married on Wednesday night and decided to exercise her democratic right before leaving the city on Thursday morning. (With Inputs from IANS)
