Union Minister Slapped at Public Meeting in Ambernath,Maharashtra
Maharashtra: Union Minister of State for social justice and empowerment,Ramdas Athawale, who represents Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha, was attacked by a man, who tried to slap him when he had gone to Ambernath town in Maharashtra ,to address a rally late Saturday.
The Republican Party of India (Athawale) chief was getting down the dais after delivering a speech, when Pravin Gosavi (30) tried to slap him.
The minister was however safe when the surrounding bystanders managed to foil Gosavi’s attempt to assault him, and thrashed him before handing him over to the police. The minister issued a statement on Sunday morning that police were to be blamed for the attack at a public event in Maharashtra’s Thane district as they failed to provide him sufficient security and that he would meet the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis about this untoward incident against a Union Minister.
Meanwhile the local unit of the Republican Party of India (A) has called for a one day shut down in Ambernath on Sunday as a mark of protest.
