Naruda Donoruda, is the remake of Bollywood flick ‘Vicky Donor’ starring Ayushmann Khurrana. The movie served as a big launch pad for Khurrana. Our South hero Sumanth, he is making a comeback after a hiatus of two years. Could this be his re-launch pad? Let's see!!!
Story:
Vikram (Sumanth), a jobless youngster who wanders around trying to discover what he can do in life. He stays with his mother, who runs a beauty parlor, and his grandmother.
Vikaram chances upon a fertility doctor Anjaneylu (Tanikella Bharani) , who feels that he can be an ideal sperm donor. Anjaneylu unabashedly tries to convince Vikram to take up the job of sperm donor. Initially reluctant but Vikram strikes with the doctor as he gets handsome perk, making it a win-win situation for both.
Vikram’s family is happy that his business is going smoothly, unaware that he is a sperm donor. Then comes the entry of Ashima Roy (Pallavi), a divorcee who is a bank employee hailing from Bengali culture.
How Vikarm convinces Ashima to marry him? Secondly, how he makes his mother-grandmother to come to terms with acceptig a divorcee as daughter-in-law. What happens when Ashima comes to know of his job? And how they patch up their strained relationship? This is what the story deals with.
Analysis:
Debutant director Mallik Ram chose an unconventional plot to tell the tale. One should laud the director for choosing this plot as it is still a taboo in our society.
‘Vicky Donor’ seamlessly hit a chord with the audience making it a riot of laughter. But when the narration is flat when it comes to Telugu.
The movie is dull and is evidently shoddy. The music score is nowhere near the original, while the songs like ‘Paani Da Rang’ are still refreshing even four years after released.
The first half is good with Tanikella Bharani’s quirky lines and Sumanth’s showing the comic side of a sperm donor. However, the second half is sluggish and falls completely on its face.
The cultural differences between Telugu and Bengali could have been shown better.
Performances:
Veteran actor Tanikella Bharani essayed his character well and elevated the slapstick comedy. His dialogues were fully loaded and the actor successfully delivered it with a punch.
Debutante Pallavi Subhash looks like a doppleganger of Yami Gautam. The actress could have done better had she not tried to imitate Yami.
Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room - Sumanth. It was a big come back for the actor after two years break, but the actor falls short of energy. In many scenes he only acts but misses the character’ soul.
Verdict:
Naruda Donoruda stays close to the original but lacks soul. Resultantly, it fails to connect with the audience.
