Mob Beats Senior Cop To Death In Jammu
Srinagar: A group of people on Thursday night beat a police officer to death near a mosque in Srinagar after he captured a few photos of the people at the mosque.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ayub Pandit was on frisking duty at the Jama Masjid at Nowhatta area, one of the largest mosques in the city. As a part of the duty the police officer captured the pictures near the mosque, when a group of people attacked and thrashed him. Seeing the large mob attacking the officer, the security guards ran away from the place leaving the officer alone. However, Pandit tried to free himself and even fired in self-defence, injuring three. But the huge mob killed the officer by thrashing him severely.
The body of Deputy Superintendent of Police Ayub Pandit was recovered on Friday morning from outside the mosque. The officer hails from Khanyar area which is adjacent to Nowhatta where he was killed.
The Police posted in the security wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police do not wear uniform as a matter of service regulation.
