Lorry collision on highway kills 5

Nellore: An road accident in Nellore district on Tuesday claimed the lives of 5 people when a speeding lorry rammed into a stationary auto parked alongside a transport lorry.

The incessant rains for over a week had left the roads in Nellore district in bad shape. Officials had recently begun repair works in the area and materials were being transported to the site. It has been reported that one such transport lorry that was carrying stones had a flat tire near Navipet. The lorry driver Tirupataiah managed to park it on one side of the road and called for assistance.

Motor mechanics reached the site in their auto and parked it near the lorry even as two of the mechanics climbed underneath the lorry to conduct repairs. Meanwhile a lorry speeding towards Chennai collided into the parked auto and the stone material in front of it.

Both the mechanics who were conducting the repairs under the parked lorry Siva(19) and Sharukh(18) as well as the lorry drive Tirupataiah (40) and Sashi (20) who was standing nearby died on the spot. Another bystander was also reported to have died in this incident.

The bodies were stated to be crushed under the weight of the lorry. Local witnesses reported the matter to the police who have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
