Kiran praises Sonia for Food Security Bil


Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday hailed the passing of the Food Security Bill by Lok Sabha and complimented Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi over it.

The bill aims to provide food and nutritional security in human life cycle approach by ensuring access to adequate quantity and quality of food at affordable prices to people to live a life with dignity, the CM said in a statement in Hyderabad.

He said it was a historic opportunity to provide food security to tens of millions of people in the country that would mitigate the problem of hunger. The Bill not only provided legal entitlement to people, but also would put pressure on the executive to be more responsive and accountable besides putting in place a credible mechanism to redress grievances.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the Andhra Pradesh government was already providing food security to 7.5 crore people of the state through the Re 1-a-kg rice scheme.
