Karimnagar: Four debt-ridden farmers end life

Four debt-ridden farmers allegedly committed suicide in Karimnagar district in the last two days, police said today.

Cotton farmers Vangapalli Bhoomesh (30) from Namili Gundupalli village and Aitha Malla Reddy (36) from Annaram village ended their life by consuming insecticide yesterday, they said.

Bhoomesh had taken about 14 acres of land on lease and raised cotton and paddy crops which were damaged due to untimely rains. Stressed over his inability to repay loan of Rs four lakh, which he had taken from private financiers, Bhoomesh took the extreme step, police said. Malla Reddy had secured a loan of Rs one lakh and his crops also got washed away due to heavy rains.

He died while undergoing treatment at MGM hospital in Warangal. Another debt-ridden farmer Sadanaboina Hanmanthu (40) from Venkateshwarapalli village hanged himself from a tree near his agricultural well on Sunday.

Another farmer E Narayana (41) from Rudrangi village in Chandurthi mandal ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling of his house on Sunday as he was under a debt of Rs one lakh, police said.
