Keralite Doctor Shot Dead In USA

Michigan: In an alarming continuation of hate crime against Indians in the USA, a young doctor from Mavelikkara in Alappuzha, Kerala was shot dead in Michigan on Thursday. The deceased Dr Ramesh Kumar, 32, was the younger son of Dr Narendra R Kumar, former president of American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) and the Association of Kerala Medical Graduates.

The body of Ramesh Kumar was found in the passenger seat of his car. Ramesh was a doctor in the Urology department of Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

A relative of Narendra Kumar from Mavelikkara said, "On Friday at 11.30am, we got information that Ramesh Kumar has been found dead inside his car. On Thursday, when Ramesh did not reach the hospital, a colleague called up his father. Then Narendra Kumar called and sent several text messages to Ramesh. But he did not revert. Following this, he lodged a complaint with the police. During the search, police found him shot dead inside his car, which was parked at a rest area on the highway in Michigan. His body was found in the back seat of the car. The police have not confirmed the reason for his death. His parents said they did not think it is a racial attack," he said.

Ramesh's postmortem has been completed and the funeral will be held on Monday.

Ramesh is survived by mother Meenakshi and sister Saradha. He completed his MBBS degree from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi. Narendra Kumar and his family are residents of East Grove Court, Freeland, Michigan.
