KCR’s ‘Operation Akarsh’ draws only two MPs
TRS chief KCR, who is known for his political tactics, appears to have moved his pawns sharply and wisely as part of his ‘operation akarsh’ before going for 2014 general elections.
TRS alleged to be laid a trap to seven Congress Telangana MPs through K Kesava Rao. Seemingly TRS intention is to draw the attention of the ruling UPA by attracting the MPs as a step towards achieving Telangana state.
But, ‘Operation Akarsh’ appears to have lost its ground and the number declined to two from seven MPs. With a warning by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in the Parliament when they raised slogans in favour of Telangana disrupting the House proceedings, the MPs gave up their protest. Though they staged protests at the entrance gate of the parliament for 48 hours to exert pressure on Telangana, the Congress high command showed no signals in their favour.
Sensing that Sonia Gandhi is against their demand, several MPs slowed down their effort. Madhu Yashki, MP from Nizamabad is the first MP to desist the decision to tender resignation when the Centre was reluctant even to talk about the T issue. One of the Telangana MPs Survey Satyanarayana, who proved his loyalty to Sonia Gandhi by not making much uproar for Telangana, has been given a berth in the Cabinet. Later, MPs Gutta Sukhender Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar went back on their decisions over the T issue.
G Vivek, Peddapalli MP, Manda Jagannadham, Nagarkurnool MP and Rajaiah, Warangal MP continued their crusade with Telangana demand. Former PCC president K Kesava Rao, who was denied Rajya Sabha ticket, was up in the arms against the party high command. The four leaders gave an ultimatum to the party high command to clear its stand on Telangana before May 30 and announced to join TRS if the Congress high command failed to respond to it.
Vivek had hectic consultations with his supporters from seven assembly constituencies in his Parliamentary constituency area for the past two days to take stock of the situation and their views on winning chances if he shifted his loyalties to KCR.
Why are MPs in a hurry to join TRS? They are under strong conclusion that their winning chances are bleak if they contested as Congress candidates in the wake of strong T sentiment. TRS reportedly assured them two MLA seats in addition to LS seats from the existing places. With regard to Rajaiah, TRS struck to its decision to allocate Warangal LS seat to Kadiyam Srihari and asked him to choose another place. So, Rajaiah dropped his decision to join TRS for now.
KLR’s vain bid to persuade MPs
Medchal MLA Kitchennagari Lakshma Reddy (KLR) on Thursday met Vivek as a representative of Congress and requested him not to take a hasty decision of leaving the party. Soon after his departure from Vivek’s residence, KCR and his son KTR along with other TRS leaders reached there in support of Vivek and Manda Jagannadham on Thursday. However, Rajaiah, who announced his resignation from Congress along with Vivek and Manda, held back his decision at the last moment. Kesava Rao and two MPs Vivek and Manda are likely to join TRS and the announcement may come to this effect shortly.
