ISIS gives death threat to BJP MLA
Meerut: Controversial BJP MLA Sangeet Som, who is an accused in a Muzaffarnagar riots case, on Saturday said that he has received a death threat from a man claiming to be a member of the militant group ISIS.
According to Som, he received a call on a private number at around 9:30 AM from an unidentified man who claimed that the MLA will be killed soon, following which he has filed a police complaint.
The man made the call from Chile in South America and said that his men have already reached India and they will kill me soon, he claimed.
“When I asked the person on the phone to stay in his limits, he told me that he is a member of the ISIS and that they don't kill uninformed. The person was talking in Hindi. During the call, the phone even got disconnected once, but he called again within two minutes”, Som said.
After receiving the threat call, the BJP MLA immediately intimated security agencies and registered a written complaint with the area's Inspector General of Police.
“I have also informed senior leaders of the party about the threat call”, he added. Som said that he had received such threats in the past and has also been attacked once, but he is not afraid of such incidents.
Earlier in August, Som had been accorded Z category security by the Centre based on intelligence inputs that the BJP MLA from Sardhana could be targeted by extremist elements.
