Is Delhi state heading for assembly elections?

With the largest single party, the BJP, deciding to decline lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung's invitation to form the government, it remains to be seen if Aam Admi Party and the Congress come together again to form the government. If they too decline, then going in for fresh assembly elections would be the only option.

Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung on Monday invited all parties to discuss the possibility of government formation in Delhi. The development came a day after the Supreme Court expressed displeasure at the Central Government's delay in ensuring a new government in Delhi which has been under President's Rule since February 17.
After three BJP legislators were elected to the Lok Sabha in May, the effective strength of the assembly came down to 67 from the original 70. The BJP's tally also got reduced to 28 from 31. It has the support of a lone Akali Dal legislator. After expelling Vinod Kumar Binny from the party, the AAP is left with 27 legislators. The Congress has eight legislators. There is one independent legislator and one from the Janata Dal-United.
After January 2014 elections, the BJP, and its allies, which had emerged as the single largest party in the December polls with 32 seats, fell short of four seats and had declined to form the government the state paving the way for the Aam Aadmi Party to form government - for 49 days - with outside support from the Congress.
