Mayawati Steps Out Of Lok Sabha Race
Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Wednesday said she will not contest the Lok Sabha elections.
"Keeping in mind the current political situation, I have decided not to contest the Lok Sabha elections," Mayawati told the media.
She is the latest addition to a quickly growing list of party chiefs and popular political leaders to have opted out of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The others include Sharad Pawar and Sushma Swaraj.
"Our coaliation is doing good...I can vacate a seat and contest for the Lok Sabha later if I want," the BSP supremo stated at a press meet. while adding that for the good of the country and the people, she didn't want to contest the polls right now.
It's worth mentioning that that Mayawati's party has worked out a deal with Samajwadi party to contest elections jointly in UP.
