Lifer For Adilabad Family That Burnt Daughter-In-Law Alive

Adilabad SC ST Atrocities Prevention Court has sentenced seven persons, all belonging to one family, for life for burning a woman alive. The victim Shalini of Gundivagu village in Ichchoda mandal of Adilabad district was set on fire by her mother-in-law, father-in-law, her brothers-in-law Ramesh, Sanjiv, Balaji, daughters-in-law Sulochana and Tanabai on April 13, 2015. They blamed her for the death of her husband Pawar Masnaji and set her on fire.

Shalini and Masnaji were married in 2013 and the latter was a BSF jawan. In 2015, Masnaji committed suicide. A few days after his death, Shalini, her mother and a constable went to the in-laws house to take back her possession. On seeing her, the in-laws flew into a rage and burnt her alive. They also attacked her mother and confined the constable for few hours.

Based on a complaint filed by the constable, the chargesheet was filed and 24 witnesses were examined. On Monday, the SC, ST Court has pronounced seven persons guilty and handed life sentence to them. A fine of Rs 20,500 has also been levied on each convict.
