‘If Seniors Make Adjustments, There Is No Need For Layoffs in IT industry’
Amidst fears over job cuts in IT industry in the country, Infosys co-founder and one of the leading stalwarts of IT industry NR Narayana Murthy has opined that is it is possible to protect jobs if senior executives accept salary cuts and invest in training young talent.
He expressed his views on the contentious issue during an interview to a national media group on Thursday.
The comments came in the wake of thousands of employees in the IT industry loosing jobs due to industry automation. It may be recalled that hundreds of employees belonging to IT giants like Tech Mahindra, Cognizant and IBM were sacked. Subsequently, the layoffs prompted the employees to approach the Telangana State government for its intervention.
There is no place for unions in the IT industry as long as the players embrace compassionate capitalism, he said.
Stating that such ups and lows are common to the industry, Narayana Murthy said that there is no point of becoming extremely anxious. He suggested that the industry leaders look for new opportunities.
