Telangana HC Breather For TRS MLA Over Citizenship Row - Sakshi Post

HYDERABAD: TRS MLA Chennamani Ramesh Babu once again got an extension to the stay on the Central Home Ministry's suspension of his citizenship on Monday.

A petition was filed in the Telangana High Court that he had a German and Indian citizenship, after which the Central Home Ministry has suspended his citizenship. According to Ramesh Babu, his lawyer has told the court that his German citizenship was already revoked.

In the wake of the court hearing on Monday, Ramesh Babu was ordered to file a fresh affidavit with full details aboutbothe his German and Indian citizenships . As per the Court's direction the hearing was postponed to four weeks. Chennamaneni, who was re-elected to Telangana Assembly from the Vemulawada constituency last year.

His rival Adi Srinivas filed a petition alleging that Ramesh had German citizenship who contested against him as the Congress candidate. The high Court asked the ministry to inquire into Srinivas' complaint. The Union Home Ministry had cancelled the Indian citizenship of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) legislator Dr Chennamaneni Ramesh for concealing facts. He approached the High Court again for safeguarding his citizenship. The ruling party legislator maintains that he had surrendered his Indian passport and took German citizenship in 1993. However, in 2009, he applied for Indian citizenship and was granted the same.
