Shivarampally KV Students Made To Clean School Toilets
Hyderabad: Class 8 students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Shivarampally were made to clean toilets with bare hands using acid and other materials. The incident took place on September 3 but came to light on Tuesday. Some students managed to take photographs of the activity and approached child right activists for help. “Students were made to use acid and other toxic materials to clean the washrooms, which in turn, can make them sick. This comes under employing children in hazardous occupation and is against the provisions of the Child Labour Restriction Act," Achyuta Rao, president of Balala Hakkula Sangham said to the daily. He also filed a complaint with the labour department.
He demanded the suspension of the principal and said that a case will also be filed with the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghatan. The school's principal DV Sandhya said that one of the teachers made students pose with the cleaning products as a part of cc, which is going on in all schools across the country from September 1 to 15.
Students said that the school used to punish students for late coming by making them clean the ground and school premises. They added that they were fine with that as it was fair to them. But cleaning washrooms without any gloves or masks is what irked them.
