Hyderabad to have first immersion tank for Ganeshas

Hyderabad: Getting inspired from Bengaluru’s Ulsoor lake, the city will have it first immersion tank at Cherlapally for Ganesh Chaturthi. On Thursday, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan laid a foundation stone for the project.

A section of Koneru lake at Cherlapally will be turned into an immersion site and GHMC has sanctioned Rs 67 lakh for the process. The civic body has chalked the action plan, following a directive from the High Court to take measures for preventing water bodies being polluted.

Speaking to media persons, the GHMC mayor said that he directed the officials to speed up the process to finish the immersion tank on time. He also said that they have also allocated Rs 4.9 crore for the beautification of the lake.

“A sewerage treatment plant will be established at Cherlapally lake for treatment and recycling water, which will be diverted into the lake. Depending upon the success of the project, 50 lakes will be taken up next year,” he added.
