Hyderabad INOX Fined For Charging Rs50 For a Water Bottle
Hyderabad: INOX, a largest multiplex theater in Hyderabad was asked to pay Rs5,000 compensation by Hyderabad consumer Forum for charging more than Maximum Retail Price (MRP) on water bottles.
A complainant, Vijay Gopal who visited the theater last year alleged that the malls were looting people by overcharging customers. He filed a complaint with the Forum, who told that he was not allowed to carry his own water bottle, and charged Rs50 for one, while he was inside the multiplex. He also told the forum that the MRP of the same water bottle was Rs20 outside. On hearing the arguments of the INOX and the complainant, the Forum asked INOX to pay Rs5000 compensation.
According to reports, the forum noted that there cannot be two MRPs for the same water bottle, and asked INOX to discontinue the unfair trade practice.
Additionally, reports suggest that the forum even asked theatre managements to provide free drinking water for its consumers.
