Gopalakrishna, Balaram Rescued From Terrorists Captivity In Libya After 14 Months

Hyderabad: The families of the two teachers - T. Gopalakrishna from Srikakulam and C. Balaram Kishan of Karimnagar - who were rescued from the captivity of Islamic State terrorists in Libya are celebrating their release. Union Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj announced that the two captives were rescued on Thursday.

Sushma Swaraj tweeted:


I am happy to inform that T Gopalakrishna (AP) & C BalaramKishan (Telangana) who were captive in Libya since 29 July 2015 have been rescued.

Talks for the release of two university teachers from Hyderabad kidnapped by Islamic State in Libya on 29 July 2015 have finally yielded results.

T. Gopi Krishna and Balram Kishan from Hyderabad along with Laxmikant and Vijay Kumar from Karnataka were abducted by the terrorists but the latter two were released in last August.

The Indian Embassy in Tripoli and some sources in the University of Sirte persistently pursued talks with the kidnappers, some of whom are said to be former students of the university led astray by extremist views.

Balram Kishan’s wife Sridevi and his brother had been going from pillar to post to secure his released.
