Vijayawada: Tension prevailed at AP Assembly in Velagapudi when students of Fathima Institute of Medical Sciences entered into a verbal duel with AP Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas demanding the state government to solve their problem at the earliest.

The students of 2015-16 batch were invited for a discussion by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday after they threatened to commit suicide. Health minister Srinivas met the students prior to the meeting with the CM and expressed his helplessness in creating seats for them. The students took objections to Kamineni Srinivas' claims over the issue. Some of the students picked up an argument with the minister at the Assembly lobby.

On Sunday, five medical students of Fathima college climbed a cellphone tower at Gunadala in the city demanding justice. They threatened to commit suicide if the issue was not resolved immediately. They were brought down safely only after police officials assured them of redressing their grievances.

Although the college doesn't have permission from the Medical Council of India (MCI) to admit students during the first and second phase of counselling, the college had flouted rules by giving admissions to about 100 students. The MCI later cancelled the admissions and the Supreme Court also endorsed the decision. Now the students' future hangs in balance with the state government’s apathy in addressing the issue.
