Mysuru Gold Merchant Robbed In Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A local criminal gang robbed three gold merchants of Rs 1.24 crore on Saturday night from a service apartment at Skyline in Basheerbagh. The victims were in the city to hand over the money to a gold merchant in Narayanguda on behalf of their employer, a gold merchant from Mysore.
The merchant, MH Rajendra, had sent the money to purchase gold. “He sends his men to cities where gold rates are low, to make purchases. After procuring the gold, he sells it in the local market in Mysore,” a police official said.
Sanketh, Swapnil and Thangappa, three employees of the goldsmith, arrived in the city on Saturday afternoon. They reached the gold merchant at Skyline Apartments in Narayanguda at around 9.30pm.
“They got there and were awaiting instructions when they get a call from their employer asking them to return because the deal had been cancelled,” said Narayanguda B. Ravindar.
After they came back to their room, three unidentified men entered into their apartment and thrashed the three employees before fleeing with the cash. “We have registered a case of robbery and began investigation,” said B Ravinder, Inspector, Narayanaguda police station.
The robbers were identified as Srihari, a local man connected with a political party, the owner of a bakery in front of Skyline apartments and another is the son of TDP leader Raju. They ganged up to rob the merchants after a cook in their flat saw the cash with them and informed the accused.
In three separate incidents, a passenger from Chennai was robbed of five tolas of gold at Sanjeevaiah Park railway station. A thief snatched the gold chain from a woman at Malakpet railway station. Another woman from Kakinada was robbed of her bag containing 6.8 tolas of gold at Secunderabad station.
