Family Of 1-Year-Old Boy With Rare Liver Disease Raises Funds Through Social Media
Hyderabad: A one-year-old boy Sriman from Gajwel has been suffering from a rare liver disease Bilari Asteria for which the treatment costs around Rs20 lakh. As the boy was born in a poor family, his parents are not in a position to afford such an expensive treatment.
However, neighbors of the family promoted a fund raising campaign on social media to get the amount from the public. The campaign was started around three months ago and as of now 1250 people donated various amounts for the cause.
Sriman's parents Hanumandas and Umamaheswari are natives of Gajwel. Hanuman works as a screen printing operator. Umamaheswari gave birth to twins last year. One of the babies Sriman had born with jaundice for which his liver got damaged. The doctors of a hospital operated the boy few months ago but of no use. Sriman's condition even turned worse. Later the family took him to NIMS where the doctors identified the disease and recommended liver transplantation.
The doctors also referred them to Mohammed Rela of Global Hospitals, who operates such rare conditions. Upon conducting the tests, the doctors at Global Hospitals said that the operation will cost around Rs20 lakh.
Hanumandas with his friend Naveen, a software engineer and Basheerbagh SI Venkatesh has launched a funding campaign on social media. A huge amount of Rs1 lakh was donated by Y. Chandrashekar, chairman of Wargal Vidyasarawathi temple trust. The family now received Rs21 lakh and the boy will be operated in two days.
However, the doctors also told the parents that even after the operation, the treatment will be continued for six more months which will cost Rs50 to Rs1 lakh monthly.
