UP CM Akhilesh Ready To Join Hands With Mayawati To Thwart BJP
In a development that could indicate the desperation of the Samajwadi Party, UP CM Akhilesh Yadav said he was ready to join hands with Mayawati to prevent the BJP from coming to power. The exit polls have predicted that the BJP is likely to unseat incumbent Samajwadi Party. All exit polls said that the BJP would either get an absolute majority or would be tantalisingly close to the magic number.
Uttarakhand Set To Swing Towards Saffron
The BJP is set to wrest power in Uttarakhand, winning 46-53 seats in the 70-member assembly, according to an India Today-Axis My India exit poll. The ruling Congress is projected to come a distant second with 12-21 seats, it said. India TV-CVoter exit poll, however, said it could be too close to call in Uttarakhand and both parties could fall short of the magic numbers.

The Congress is tipped to take power in Punjab, winning 62-71 seats in the 117-member assembly, an India Today-Axis My India exit poll said. The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance was headed towards a rout, it said, giving the Aam Aadmi Party 42-51 seats.

The BJP is expected to form the next government in Uttar Pradesh winning 190-210 seats in the 403-member assembly, a TimesNow-VMR exit poll said on Thursday. The Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance is tipped to win 110-130 seats and the BSP 57-74 seats. News X and CNN-MRC exit polls too have said that the BJP would be the single largest party.
