Excise recruitment: Man collapses, dies


A 21-year-old excise constable aspirant collapsed and died today while taking part in a four-kilometre run during a recruitment excercise, Excise officials said.

The incident took place this morning when Repuri Sanjeev took part in the running test organised by Andhra Pradesh Excise Department Kadapa wing,to gauge the physical fitness of candidates, Deputy Commissioner of Excise Naga Rani said.

Sanjeev, a native of Malluru village, Chinnamandem mandal in Kadapa fell down when he completed two kilometres on the Ring road near Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), where he died.
RIMS Director Dr Siddappa Gowrav confirmed the demise but did not give further details.
As many as 15,000 candidates are competing for 80 posts to be filled in the Excise department here.
 The officials are testing the calibre of 1,000 candidates in a group and continuing to test four groups a day from December 1 onwards. This is the tenth day of the process.
