Eight children die in accident

Eight school children were killed and several others, injured, when a private bus collided head-on with a Tata Ace vehicle in Pudukkottai in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.

According to reports, the accident occurred when the children were going to school. Rescue teams comprising of locals and police immediately swung into action and recovered bodies of the children, and evacuated others to a nearby hospital.

Panic gripped Pudukkottai and adjacent areas after the news of the accident spread.

The identities of those killed in the accident are yet to be ascertained. A case has been registered at the Pudukkottai police station.
